About this video
This video features footage of Japan's Mitsubishi F-2, U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II, and a Royal New Zealand Air Force P-8 Poseidon operating together during the exercise — alongside the debut appearance of Boeing's MQ-28 Ghost Bat, an uncrewed Collaborative Combat Aircraft making one of its first operational flights outside Australia. Exercise Valiant Shield 2026 (VS26) brought together the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand for one of the Indo-Pacific's premier multinational field training exercises, running from June 22 to July 1, 2026 across Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Japan, and the surrounding waters of the Mariana Islands Range Complex. Now in its 11th iteration since 2006, Valiant Shield has evolved from a unilateral U.S. exercise into a fully integrated multinational operation, testing the ability of allied forces to detect, track, and engage threats across sea, air, land, space, and cyberspace. Exercises like Valiant Shield are central to strengthening interoperability among allied air forces and demonstrating the collective capability of partner nations across the region.
