About this video
A damaged fiber optic line can mean an aircraft is grounded and critical mission data is lost. Now, NAWCAD is helping change that.
By expanding the Navy’s in-house fiber optic repair capability by 400 percent, NAWCAD engineers are helping maintainers repair more fiber connections faster—keeping aircraft such as the P-8A Poseidon, F/A-18, F-35 and MQ-4C Triton ready for the mission.
The effort also establishes a standardized training and certification process and a new Fiber Research and Development Lab, strengthening the Navy’s ability to keep pace with emerging technologies and growing data demands across naval aviation.
