About this video

U.S. Army Sgt. Egan McDermott, assigned to Eagle Troop, 1st Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, discusses the execution and training objectives of a platoon situational training exercise (STX) at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, Oct. 21, 2026. During the exercise, Soldiers from other platoons served as opposing forces (OPFOR), creating realistic battlefield conditions that challenged participants to communicate, maneuver and execute tactical operations in a dynamic training environment. The exercise strengthened individual and collective proficiency, reinforced small-unit tactics and enhanced the unit’s ability to respond to complex operational scenarios. Platoon-level STX training develops combat readiness through the execution of mission-essential tasks, preparing Soldiers for large-scale combat operations. (U.S. Army video by Sgt.
