Headquarters 6th Battalion, 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade, conducts an assumption of responsibility for incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Joseph on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, October 16, 2026. An assumption of responsibility ceremony in the Army is a formal military tradition that signifies the official arrival and stepping-in of a new Command Sergeant Major or senior noncommissioned officer to a unit. It marks a change in leadership and publicly acknowledges the achievements of the incoming CSM while also welcoming them to the unit. (U.S. Army video by Sgt. Nathan Arellano Tlaczani)
