A multinational task force converged in the Mediterranean Sea to test fleet resilience and response to threats from drones, missiles and aircraft. By using innovative technology to detect and eliminate threats, NATO tested various capabilities to keep the Mediterranean secure.
The five-day defence exercise involving ships from Greece, Italy and Türkiye tested Allied forces against emerging threats in the electromagnetic spectrum and uncrewed aircraft systems. Under Standing NATO Maritime Group Two, the bi-annual Dynamic Guard 2026 exercise showcased how forces are ready to fight, even in scenarios where traditional communication methods may be compromised. The exercise ran from 21 to 25 September 2026.
Footage includes shots of drones taking off from flight decks, aerial footage of Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) ships at sea on the Mediterranean, soundbites from Commodore Georgios Kypriotis, Commander of SNMG2, and Gerald Poppinga, NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.
