About this video
You are not alone.
The Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Michael Kjar, and State Senior Enlisted Leader Command Sgt. Maj. Spencer Nielsen of the Utah National Guard talk about the importance of suicide awareness, connection and taking care of our people.
We have a responsibility to know one another, check in when something feels different and create a culture where Soldiers, Airmen and families know it is OK to ask for help.
Sometimes support starts with a simple conversation. A phone call. Sitting beside someone. Listening without judgment. Reminding a friend, teammate or family member that they matter and that they do not have to carry a difficult season alone.
Struggles are not always easy to see. Financial stress, relationship challenges, changes in behavior, substance use, depression or anxiety may be signs that someone needs support. Staying connected helps us recognize those changes and gives us the opportunity to reach out.
For those carrying the grief of losing someone to suicide, you do not have to carry that weight alone either.
Suicide awareness is not limited to a single month or a single conversation—it is about knowing our people, recognizing when something may be wrong, and creating an environment where Soldiers, Airmen, and their families feel safe asking for help.
Look out for one another. Listen. Stay connected. Reach out.
If you or someone you know is struggling, connect with a trusted leader, friend, family member or qualified support professional. Help is available, and you matter.
