South Dakota Army National Guard competitors complete a series of battle drill lanes during the Best Warrior Competition at West Camp in Rapid City, S.D., Sept. 12, 2026. The series of six lanes challenges competitors to apply technical and tactical skills across communications, weapons assembly, medical evacuation, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense, and other combat tasks. By requiring Soldiers to demonstrate proficiency across multiple warrior tasks, the event evaluates their ability to apply individual skills, adapt to changing conditions and perform effectively in demanding operational environments.
