About this video
Chief Warrant Officer 5 Robert Gibson, Command Chief Warrant Officer (CCWO) for the District of Columbia National Guard, recounts the organization's rich military history from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, June 20, 2026. CW5 Gibson's presentation highlights the Battle of Fort Stevens—the only Civil War battle fought within the District of Columbia and the site where President Abraham Lincoln came under enemy fire—as well as the service of the D.C. Militia during pivotal moments in the nation's history. By preserving and sharing these stories, today's National Guard Soldiers and Airmen gain a deeper appreciation for the legacy they carry forward in service to the nation.
