Synopsis

Ukraine continues its brave fight for freedom and independence, aided by crucial military support from NATO Allies.
In Lithuania, the army is busy training the next generation of Ukrainian Non-Commissioned Officers – mid-level enlisted leaders responsible for leading troops into combat – who will go on to form the backbone of the forces fighting to secure their homeland. In Poland, several NATO Allies are teaching Ukrainian tankers how to use the powerful Leopard 2 main battle tank, which many NATO Allies have donated to the Ukrainian Army, giving them mobility and firepower. And in the United Kingdom, British Army bomb disposal experts are training Ukrainian technicians how to detect and neutralise land mines left behind by Russian forces, as well as unexploded ordnance buried in the soil.
Since the beginning of Russia’s brutal and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine three years ago, in February 2022, NATO Allies and partners have stood firm in their support of Ukraine’s armed forces, as the country continues its heroic efforts to uphold its right to self-defence enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The unit, part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, has been employing robotic systems in a variety of engineering and demolition missions. These unmanned platforms allow paratroopers to conduct reconnaissance, clear obstacles, and neutralize threats while remaining at a safer distance from potential hazards.

One of the key robotic assets in use is a remote-controlled, multi-terrain robot equipped with advanced sensors and cameras. Designed for tasks such as explosive detection and infrastructure assessment, these systems provide real-time data to engineers before troops physically engage an area.

The integration of robotics aligns with the U.S. Army’s broader modernization strategy, which emphasizes leveraging technology to increase lethality while minimizing risk. For airborne units like the 173rd, which frequently conduct rapid deployments into complex environments, these capabilities are critical.

The 173rd Airborne Brigade, known as the &quot;Sky Soldiers,&quot; has a long history of innovation and adaptability. With ongoing advancements in battlefield technology, the brigade continues to refine its tactics, ensuring that airborne engineers remain at the forefront of modern warfare.

The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army&apos;s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.

The training focused on the controlled use of C4, a versatile yet powerful explosive commonly employed by engineers to demolish structures, clear obstacles, and create breach points. Additionally, soldiers practiced deploying cratering charges, designed to create deep holes in roads and runways, slowing enemy advances in combat scenarios.

As one of the most physically and technically demanding jobs in the U.S. Army, combat engineers must be proficient in explosives, route clearance, fortifications, and mobility operations under high-stress conditions. The Grafenwöhr training reinforced those skills, ensuring engineers can execute precise demolitions in real-world scenarios.

In addition to traditional demolitions, the 173rd Combat Engineer Company (Airborne) is integrating cutting-edge robotics technology to enhance safety and efficiency on the battlefield. The unit has been employing unmanned robotic systems for reconnaissance, obstacle clearance, and threat neutralization, reducing the risk to soldiers while maximizing operational effectiveness.

One of the key robotic assets is a remote-controlled, multi-terrain robot equipped with advanced sensors and cameras. Designed for tasks such as explosive detection and infrastructure assessment, these systems provide real-time data to engineers before troops physically engage an area.

The integration of robotics aligns with the U.S. Army’s modernization strategy, which emphasizes leveraging technology to increase lethality while minimizing risk. For airborne forces like the 173rd Airborne Brigade, which frequently conduct rapid deployments into complex environments, these capabilities are critical.
</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.dvidshub.net/video/embed/954935</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2025-03-11T19:01:30Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://stn.securitytv.ai/watch/dvids%3avideo%3a955135/rut-eod-robotics</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://d1ldvf68ux039x.cloudfront.net/thumbs/frames/video/2503/955135/DOD_110859628.0000001/640x360_50-40_q90.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>RUT EOD Robotics</video:title><video:description>U.S. Marines with explosive ordinance disposal, Combat Logistics Battalion 26, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, operate a Man Transportable Robotic System (MTRS) for subterranean clearance in support of Realistic Urban Training (RUT) Exercise at Fort Barfoot, Virginia, March 10, 2025. RUT is a land-based training exercise which enables the 22nd MEU to conduct expeditionary operations as a cohesive Marine Air-Ground Task Force, in preparation to integrate with U.S. Navy for future operations. In this episode, public affairs specialist Jack Bunja interviews Aime Goad, a supervisory chemical engineer and Chief of the Intelligent Sensing for Detection Branch. They discuss how the Center equips warfighters with methods to collect and evaluate aerosol samples in the field, while also integrating processes to assess the collected data using both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Ms. Goad explains how DEVCOM CBC researchers strive to develop methods to safely collect and sample dangerous aerosolized materials in the field to provide military decision-makers with the necessary data to support Soldiers. She also highlights how her team uses this data to inform AI/ML models, which could seamlessly enhance chemical and biological defense capabilities. These AI/ML models would allow detection technology provided to warfighters to adapt and adjust, thereby maintaining their readiness and effectiveness in the field.</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.dvidshub.net/video/embed/972197</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2025-07-30T21:21:06Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://stn.securitytv.ai/watch/dvids%3avideo%3a972312/land-phalanx-weapon-system-crew-optimizes-defense-capabilities-2k-60fps</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://d1ldvf68ux039x.cloudfront.net/thumbs/frames/video/2507/972312/DOD_111201729.0000001/640x360_50-40_q90.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Land Phalanx Weapon System Crew Optimizes Defense Capabilities (2K, 60FPS)</video:title><video:description>A Land Phalanx Weapon System crew prepares and fires a Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar defense artillery system for a pre-aim calibration fire exercise in Erbil, Iraq, July 9, 2025. The training programme is part of UK-led Operation Interflex, which the United Kingdom decided to extend until the end of 2026.
Synopsis

NATO Allies and partners are preparing Ukrainian soldiers for leadership on the frontline.
Under UK-led Operation Interflex, Ukrainian soldiers are being trained on the platoon commander course. The 10-week course is open to experienced soldiers. Many of the participants have previously completed the basic training phase, returning to build on their skills. The course is helping to teach the participants best tactics and procedures to exploit Russian vulnerabilities on the battlefield.
Operation Interflex has an extensive programme of courses for Ukrainian volunteers and soldiers, across various undisclosed locations in the United Kingdom. It was launched in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and has trainers from NATO Allies Albania, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Romania, Sweden, the United Kingdom and NATO partners Australia and New Zealand. It also has instructors from Kosovo. On Ukraine’s Independence Day, 24 August, the UK announced Operation Interflex will continue until ‘at least the end of 2026’, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s defence.
Footage includes shots of trench clearance and urban training plus soundbites from a Ukrainian trainee, Major Cussins, Commanding Officer of the Handling and Processing Centre, and Lieutenant Willet, 1st Battalion Irish Guards, Platoon Commander Battle Course Training Unit.

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, MS – The first installment of the Dragon CLAWS video series, &quot;AI Empowered Airmen,&quot; offers Airmen a concise overview of the official AI models and tools available for their use. The video highlights the Department of the Air Force&apos;s (DAF) approved AI capabilities, which are designed to enhance mission effectiveness, improve decision-making, and streamline administrative tasks. The DAF&apos;s official policy, detailed in Air Force Doctrine Note (AFDN) 25-1, &quot;Artificial Intelligence,&quot; outlines a commitment to human-machine teaming, ethical use, and responsible data handling.

Featured in the video is NIPRGPT, the DAF&apos;s secure, Common Access Card-enabled experimental AI chatbot. This tool, part of the broader Dark Saber software platform, allows Airmen to explore and experiment with generative AI for tasks like drafting correspondence and writing code, serving as a key component of the DAF&apos;s strategy to increase AI literacy across the force.</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.dvidshub.net/video/embed/975540</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2025-09-02T16:42:38Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://stn.securitytv.ai/watch/dvids%3avideo%3a975859/russia-s-invasion-of-ukraine-year-one</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://d1ldvf68ux039x.cloudfront.net/thumbs/frames/video/2509/975859/DOD_111272554.0000001/640x360_50-40_q90.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine: Year One</video:title><video:description>This film draws on numerous news sources and informed commentary to provide a short summary of a few significant events that occurred during the first year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Synopsis

In Ukraine, drones have transformed the country’s fight for freedom. From the earliest days of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, drones have offered Ukrainian forces a cheap and effective way to try to level the playing field. They’ve had to innovate to avoid being overrun.

NATO is working to identify and apply lessons learned from Russia’s war against Ukraine through the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) based in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The centre is contributing to NATO’s deterrence and defence, and increase the ability of Allied and Ukrainian forces to operate effectively together.

NATO Allies are also learning from the experience of Ukrainian veterans.
In Poland veterans of the Ukrainian Army recently shared their knowledge of drone warfare with soldiers from the United Kingdom and the United States. In this video, we hear a former drone operator talk about his frontline experience with drones, and why sharing his knowledge with NATO troops is so important.

Synopsis
Norway has established a new training camp for Ukrainian troops in Poland.
Called Camp Jomsborg, the base already hosts more than 200 trainers from the Norwegian Army and a large number of Ukrainian Army trainees. According to the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, the camp will conduct both general training for soldiers and advanced courses for officers and specialists.
Norway is the lead nation for Operation Legio, an effort to train and equip the Ukrainian armed forces that involves seven other NATO Allies, namely Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden. Norway has committed approximately 10 billion Norwegian krone to Operation Legio.
Footage includes shots of Norwegian troops teaching close-quarters battle tactics to Ukrainian troops, as well as general shots of Camp Jomsborg.

In this video episode of Empowering Excellence, Art and Frankie sit down with David Byres, Program Director for NAVWAR’s Data Science Learning Program (DSLP) — the team behind one of the Navy’s most in-demand and fastest-growing training initiatives.

What began in 2020 as a single data science course has evolved into a powerhouse program delivering more than 10,000 training sessions across the Department of the Navy. From foundational analytics to cutting-edge generative AI and prompt engineering, the DSLP is transforming how Sailors and civilians approach data, innovation, and mission impact.

In this conversation, we explore:
• How NAVWAR is leading the charge in data-driven decision-making
• The rise of generative AI and its implications for the Navy
• Practical training that is helping teams modernize and innovate

Deep in the forests of south eastern Poland, Ukrainian soldiers are training hard at a new camp established by the Norwegian Army and backed by seven other NATO Allies. Camp Jomsborg was set up earlier this year as part of Operation Legio, an effort to train, equip and fund Ukraine’s armed forces, and is supported by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Poland. Norway leads Legio, and its trainers work side-by-side with counterparts from the Estonian Army to equip Ukraine’s soldiers with the skills they need to fight and prevail on the battlefield. Camp Jomsborg - named after a mythical Viking fortress - is conveniently located near the Ukrainian border and gives the trainees a safe place to learn new skills before returning to the fight. The camp is currently undergoing a significant expansion that will allow it to dramatically increase the number of troops that train there. Footage includes shots of Ukrainians troops learning trench-clearing tactics and practising shooting machine guns. Interviews with a Ukrainian Army infantry trainer and a Norwegian Army officer.

The way that Ukrainian troops have had to fight has changed rapidly over the years, since Russia’s full-scale invasion, meaning that training programmes for Ukrainian soldiers had to be constantly updated to keep pace with new threats in the battlefield.
Ukrainian troops are not only learning but also teaching partners. Australian, British and Swedish drone pilots took part in the demonstration of drone warfare, which included simulated munitions dropped from drones and the use of first person view (FPV) drones.
The UK-led Operation Interflex has now trained more than 56,000 Ukrainian personnel.
Footage includes Ukrainian and NATO drone operators as well as interviews with Ukrainian and Swedish drone pilots.</video:description><video:player_loc>https://www.dvidshub.net/video/embed/988649</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2025-12-04T09:35:18Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://stn.securitytv.ai/watch/dvids%3avideo%3a989332/allies-partners-participate-in-box-building-for-ocd-2025</loc><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://d1ldvf68ux039x.cloudfront.net/thumbs/frames/video/2512/989332/DOD_111424839.0000003/640x360_50-40_q90.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Allies, partners participate in box building for OCD 2025</video:title><video:description>Volunteers decorated and packed bundles in support of Operation Christmas Drop 2025 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Dec. 5, 2025. At a training camp in south-east Poland, Ukrainian troops are learning how to fight and survive on the battlefield under the instruction of NATO Allies. Camp Jomsborg was established in 2025 as part of Operation Legio, a multinational effort led by Norway to train, equip and fund Ukraine’s armed forces. Named after a mythical Viking fortress, the facility was set up by the Norwegian Army with support from several NATO Allies, including Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, and is designed to give Ukrainian troops the battlefield skills they need to operate effectively. Ukrainian soldiers who arrive at Jomsborg have varying levels of skills and experience. Some are hardened combat veterans looking to learn advanced tactics from the Legio instructors; others are combat support troops like logistics soldiers, or artillery personnel who need infantry combat skills to survive on a dynamic and unpredictable battlefield. At the very least, trainees receive thorough instruction in marksmanship under stress, effective combat communication and platoon- and company-level infantry movements. Due to its close proximity to the Ukrainian border, Camp Jomsborg is an ideal place for Ukrainian forces to sharpen their skills.

On 24 February 2022, Russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine began. Four years later, Ukraine keeps on bravely defending its freedom. For four years, NATO’ support to Ukraine has never stopped, and we will continue to make sure Ukraine has what it needs to defend itself. As the words of the Ukrainian national anthem say: “Ukraine&apos;s freedom has not yet perished, nor has her glory”. Ukrainian soldiers keep singing their anthem while NATO keeps standing with Ukraine, with the goal of reaching a just and lasting peace as soon as possible.

The system, part of the V Corps-led &quot;Project Talon&quot; initiative, employs AI to drastically shorten the sensor-to-shooter timeline, enabling faster and more precise long-range fires.

Project Talon integrates AI directly into the Tactical Operations Center, where it analyzes data from numerous sources to identify and recommend targets. This human-machine team approach enhances the lethality and decision-making speed of warfighters, ensuring V Corps and its allies maintain a decisive advantage on the modern battlefield. The robust training program ensures a soldier always makes the final, critical decision in the targeting process, reinforcing the U.S. Army&apos;s commitment to the ethical use of new technologies.
